I am using XP and i want to format my HD and re-install XP. I righclick and C: and click on format but l aways get an error when i wanna format. How can i format my drive and then re-install XP. I dont wany any of my old programs i've installed on my computer. The ones i want back i will manually re-install.

You can't format a running installation. The operating system has safeguards against that. A darn good idea in my opinion.

Just put ya XP cd in the drive...reboot and make sure your Bios is set to "boot from cdrom"...then let the windows load its shit into memory then go through the motions of setting up XP as per normal...make sure you dont install a multi-boot scenario....make sure when your given the option to install windows on ya hard drive you also tell it to format it first

just use win xp boot disk and type the command format c: depending if you drive is c or whatever....
