Thread: Just a few questions

  1. #1
I download a lot of movies with alt.binz - it supposedly has a video preview option, but I've never been able to get it to work. when i right click a movie and select "play" it turns the text blue but nothing happens?

Also every now and then I find myself missing a rar file or two. I understand that par files can somehow fix the issue, what is the best way to obtain these files and how do i use them to fix my videos? thanks

I think video is only in the pay for version?

I use this to play as it's downloading.

Also, if you missed a couple of .rar files, re-add the NZB to Alt.binz and pause your queue, and look for the missing parts, and now delete everyting but the missing parts.

But I think your saying your missing a few blocks? If that's the case, download all the .par2 files too and Alt.Binz should auto repair it for you and extract.

Make sure you have VLC media player installed. In alt.binz go to Setup>NZB Play and where it says "Path to players exe file" enter in the path to vlc.exe (or click the browse button and select it). Now try the video preview option, it should work, though you need a reasonably fast internet connection for it to work properly (2mbit+ for standard videos and 10meg+ for hd videos would probably do). Also after you start downloading it may take a few minutes for the video to start playing (as soon as it finishes downloading the first rar).

You shouldnt be missing a couple rar files, perhaps your settings in alt.binz are wrong or you are using bad nzb files. At most you should only miss a few blocks of some rars, in this case alt.binz will repair it using the par2 files (if you enable auto-repair in the options).

Make sure that when you add something to your queue you also include the par2 files. Alt.Binz will automatically download only the smallest par2 (index) file. And check the files as they download. Then it will download additional par2s as needed.

i have the exact same problem; the way i found to fix it is after the text turns blue, right click again, click on play, and then right click on it _again_, and click play; VLC will *then* popup and play your video.
dont ask me why you have to do it that way, but it does work...

if its too much hassle for you, you can use this:

Hmm, yeah I tried right clicking and playing multiple times. All it does is change the text blue, reverts it, changes it back to blue, etc.

Installed an older version of VLC, had the same issues.

NZBPlayer installed, I loaded the first rar (movie was about 30% done at this point) and tried to play it but nothing happened. When I used VLC as the external player in nzbplayer, it complained about being unable to open the mkv file.

its most definitely an issue your having with VLC... altbinz & nzbplayer video playback work fine over here... i would suggest downloading the newest version of vlc, and reinstalling. if it still doesn't work, completely remove VLC, run a registry cleaner like CCleaner, and try a reinstall.

Do you know what PARS are? You have to repair the borken .rar files first....
