Opps... I scratched off the soft material on the CPU fan. Is that ok? My software says the average temperature is 50C/110F

Is that a good temperature?

Oh btw, I have Asus Probe for my monitor software, which one is the best software?

that soft stuff is called termal paste, it helps bond ur heaksink(big metal thing) to ur processer (thing that makes ur pc run), it also heats transfer heat, if i was u i get it replaced, called up a pc store, they should be able tp help u

I dont think you could scratch off the thermal paste..unless he took the whole thing off...and i dont see him taking it off really....does the thermal past actually GLUE the heatsink and fan to it? or does it just help transfer heat?

The thermal paste is simply a medium to ensure maximum heat transfer from the chip to the heatsink.

But it ISN'T on the fan at all...

The manual for AMD 2400+ says

"DO NOT SCRATCH OFF SOFT MATERIAL"

He is likely talking about the little pad that comes on the retail heatsink and fan combo.I say if it is scratched up just scrape it off and get some thermal paste.

the paste is the glue in between the cpu chip and the heat sink

if you scratch that paste off the cooling wont work well

go buy some at the computer store and put them back on

I got confused at the manual, it said to take off tape... there is no tape so.....

Well I didn't scratch the soft material off on the new CPU.

I remember reading that, it is very confusing. I knew what I was doing, and I wondered why there was no tape, I can understand someone who is not familiar with this removing the thermal pad.

Btw, who here knows that the thermal pad melts slightly every time you use the pc, and solidifies when it cools down? In contrast Arctic Silver thermal paste hardens with use and consequently provides better conduction.
