Did you try rebooting after your changes? Sometimes the icons won't change until you reboot, but it'll still open with the app you just associated it with.

yea i tried to reboot still no luck i think im just gonna dl an older version of wmp does ne know wich 1 im talkin bout (with the diffrent icons for files)
Yeah, I was wrong. For some stupid reason MS made all video icons look the same with newer versions of Media Player. If you want different icons for different video types, you need to install an older version. I have both 6.4 and 9 installed. I keep video files associated with 6.4 for a double-click, but if I want to use 9 I just right-click on a file and select 'Play with Media Player'.

its already in all versions of windows
just go start>run and enter "mplayer2" without the quotes
For an even older version do the same as above replacing mplayer2 with mplay32
