Thread: Damm Divx!

  1. #1
i have tried to use tmpge to encode divx files to dvd, but it doesnt let you convert those files because of the compression.

i can convert some mpg's and normal avi files.
does anyone know how to change a divx file into a mpg2 file so that i can put it onto dvd?

(not holding my breath on this one but u never know&#33

also please i am not interested in vcds or svcds.

    cheers

    chadds

theres a utility that DVD2SVCD says will remove encoding of sound and video look on their site.

what do you mean by "normal" avi files? as far as i know, there is no normal avi because avi is just a container designated to use a fairly wide variety of mpeg-4 streams.

as for TmpgEnc, i think it's designed primarily to encode VCD/SVCD-quality mpeg-1 and mpeg-2. if you want to make DVDs, you should use a DVD-authoring program instead.

edit: oops, my bad. looks like TmpgEnc is supposed to make DVD-quality mpeg-2. your problem still sounds a bit vague to me, though. i'm not sure why you should be having problems converting DivX to mpeg-2, since i've done it plenty of times and had no problems. maybe your mpeg-4 decoders are just not working correctly.

perhaps a couple of guides would help you sort it out-- but i'm not seeing what the problem is, exactly.

these two sites have always been reliable in the quality of info they provide, imho.

I play divx files straight from a dvd disc on my modified ps2. I put about 4 films on a disc, add the the mp3/Avi software to the disc, and write. Insert it into my ps2 (Modified with a modchip) and play. Works dvd quality perfect everytime
here the site for the avi/mp3 ps2 media player.http://ps2.consolevision.com/ps2reality.shtml

(Saves alot of time re-encoding the DiVx back to MpEGS to)

Probably a stupid question, but would that also work with a cd-r and a ps1 (modified with a modchip)?

yes, it would work with a cdr, but you'd only fit one AVI-Divx Movie on a 700mb disc. But a ps1 wouldnt be capable of playing the AVi file, as it processsor speed is to slow
