I Dled a copy of PartitionMagic 8.0, and, after partitioning my HD (all went according to procedure), I find no evidence the partitions exist.

Diskkeeper tells me "defrag has been cancelled due to inconsistencies that were detected in the filesystem. Please run CHKDSK on (C to repair these inconsistencies, then run diskkeeper again."

    WinDoctor reveals:

    INVALID ICON:C:\PROGRA~1\Partition Magic
    8.0\BTMagic\RescueMe\DOSystem\Label.PIF
The Icon C:\Windows\System\Shell32.dll cannot be used. The icon file may ahve been deleted or the .dll might be corrupt.

A CleanSweep Uninstall Wizard search shows many files still extant and denies me access to delete them.

How can I verify the partitions are not there, and how can I get rid of this stuff so I can try another DL that works?

    J2,

I get that same error about the icon. No big deal, my PM works fine.

Have you run CHKDSK? Then Diskeeper?

    Glad you're here, buddy.

It wants me to run CHKDSK/F to fix any problems; should I be at all paranoid about this?

I still can't verify my partitions-should I DL another copy?
