www.pricewatch.com has some good prices on HDD's and is my primary suggestion. ebay.com would be my secondary recommendation.

Your best bet is to goto the manufacturer's website and see if they are offering any rebates. Then check out sites like Staples, OfficeMax, Dell, etc and see if they are also offering additional discounts. For example: I bought a 120GB Maxtor for $120 minus a $30.00 maxtor rebate, minus $20.00 off $100.00 purchase from staples, which is a whopping $70.00! Also, check out coupon sites like:

    http://www.ableshoppers.com/
    http://www.computerlandcentral.com/
    http://www.ecoupons.com/index.php
    http://www.hotdealsclub.com/

Keep in mind that most rebates are for the retail version. You're out of luck with the OEM versions.

    Goodluck

I just watch for sales at the big retailers.

I got my 160GB WD 7200rpm 8MB cache at CompUSA for US $99 apiece.

After the fucking rebates, of course.
Jeez, I HATE all this rebate crap.

    Rebates REALLY piss me off.

I'm guessing that a significant percentage of buyers either forget to mail them in or screw up the documentation and get denied the money. It must be worth it for them to do it this way. But it is irritataing as hell to see a "special advertised price" and then read the small print and realize that the out -the-door price is actually almost double and then you have to wait 6-8 weeks to get a rebate check.
    IF you're lucky.

My WD rebates took 6 weeks to arrive.
    Better than average I think.

I just got a $10 check from someone for something that I bought in AUG.- I don't even remember what it was.

hard drives are cheap. where ever you buy them they don't seem to be more than a dollar a gig. i just got a seagate 120 for $139 from best buy and that's before the $40 rebate from segate and the $10 one from best buy.
