    my friend downloaded steam and when he tries to install it it says some bullshit and it keeps repeating it, and then he got some email from steam saying that his cd-key is allready being used by some other person and its in the steam database. when i downloaded and installed steam i never got any message!

    Its probably because you are not using a pirated CD key.

    Bropably your friend got his/her cd-key from some internet site. I also downloaded Steam and then got a ck-key from a site i wont tell (because i think that the forum rules disallows that). Then it worked for a few weeks and then the whole Steam stopped working.

    My advice is to buy Half-Life for 10 € (about 11$ and 6£).

    Yes, get half life which is very cheap and you get a key that you can use for steam and then you get access to all the games it offers.
