If they did, there wouldn't be any zombies.
Of all the zombie material I've read/seen so far only two make any sense...
World War Z was an excellent overview of the effects of a pandemic (zombies) on all aspects of society and the
Newsflesh trilogy actually has reasonably coherent explanation of the medical origins and repercussions of a zombie outbreak.
As for movies, I don't think anything will ever top Romero's original
Night of the Living Dead (which I saw during it's original release).
Placed in context, few movies have been as horrifying (
Alien would be comparable) and none as bleak.
Basically, I don't get all the zombie love lately.
