Newsgroups For Downloading

[Kazaa Lite freak]

Hello, exactly as my subject and description says are they better than IRC, i did look into it, like www.shemes.com i understand the principle, but for one i cant get it to work cus i dont know what server to connect too, can any1 who uses newsgroups give me some info on them please

ur isp usually give you asscess to their news server, connect to it

it is usually like this: news.urisp.com

but u have to find out what urs are

is newsgroups better than irc? yes and no

irc is known for its dedicated new releases and fast servers but notorious for its long queues

newsgroups is best known for its speed and avalibility of stuff but news servers have retention periods so if you see something you want u better grab it quick or it's gone

thanks james, but its aol, and ive been told they dont give u access to it or something not sure if thats true, plus whats the best newsgroup software,. and is it worth getting into to, i mean do files tend to go there faster than irc, or same, and is it better than irc, i know you get maximun speeds but you have to download each 15mb 001-042 file thing, no queues also ?

there is no "best" news reader per se but xnew is good and popular and free

there are a whole bunch of commercial ones but i haven't tried them yet

xnews or grabit is the way to go but if you are just starting out i recommand agent

i always *always* max out my connection on newsgroups

irc is pretty fast too, but depend on how many ppl are downloading

yes you do have to download each message for each rar files and then decode them then put them all back together in one piece
