OK, now I've got your attention, I want to talk about mangoes.

It's Mango season in Cairns, they are hanging off the trees wherever you walk. Unfortunately the season clashes with the flying fox breeding season, so you have to be careful walking under the trees at night. A mango dropped by a flying fox from 50 feet can seriously damage your skull! I just picked a couple in the park behind my place, big, red and delicious. I was gonna eat them with ice cream, but what the fuck, they were so nice I couldn't be bothered opening the freezer. You can buy them from fruit stalls along the main roads here for $8-10 for a box of about 20, (about 3-4 quid) my daughter in London paid 7 quid each for them last year!

Mmmmm! I know you'll all be pleased for me.

Who needs mangoes. We've got um-bongo. They drink it in the Congo, you know.

In England mangoes don't cost 7 quid, in season they cost upwards of 70p, when and where was your daughter shopping? At Harrods at the worst possible time of year?

Sorry, should have said $7. Which ones do you get for 70p? Not Kensington pride, or Bowen Supremes, just the run-of-the-mill stringy ones we feed to the pigs.

Doesn't everyone shop at Harrods then? I know mummy and daddy do.

70p was just the lowest price i could find online at the moment, personally i've never bought mangoes. My dad used to get them from Wood Green market and I'm pretty sure they were cheaper than 70p each, but I don't know for sure. I've never heard of any of the names of mangoes you mention (I've don't know the names of any types of mangoes), but might those names be specific to Australia? I think the ones we used to get are more likely from the carribean. Oh and btw they were very nice.

The ones I said are exported to the UK, and fetch a premium.

The best mangoes I've ever tasted was when I lived in Goa, they were called Saint Alphonso, there wasn't that many of them, and they are almost all exported. Except the ones we nicked, of course.

Kazaalite Forum Shutting Down!, Would I lie to you?
    Yeah, you would.

And I can't believe that everyone so far has responded by posting about mangoes.
