Thread: Hard Drive

  1. #1
Does the INTEL Desktop Board D875PBZ support Ultra ATA/133 hard drives? ..i'm using 80GB ultra ATA 100 2mb but i am thinking to add a new hard drive.....160GB Ultra ATA 133 8mb. i dont want to spend alot of money on ATA 133 if my computer doesn't support 133.
another question is ....if i use 2 hard drives at the same time...it's gonna run at 100 or 133?

    thanks

Two Parallel ATA IDE interfaces with UDMA 33, ATA-66/100 support

And I guess the second question isn't so important now but if you had a board which supported ATA133 and you connected 2 drives, one ATA100 and the other ATA133, then they would each run at specified speeds.

    Really? I didn't know that.

So I suppose it would make sense to use the fast one as your C: drive and the slow one for storage?
Could you actually notice the speed difference do you think?

No, I don't think you would see the difference. I fact i'm not even sure the drives ever really use the extra bandwidth. Maybe the occasional peak?

What activity is the most HDD intensive?

Outside of the benchmark tests, what real-life work makes your HDD earn it's keep?

I think the most intensive HD use is when doing maintenence like defragmenting or scanning for viri or even copying large files.

You could add a card but I don't think it wouldn't be worth it. Just get a good ATA100 drive.

    For a high performance 160 GB - ATA100 drive: http://www.seagate.com/cda/products/discsa...081,578,00.html

So trying to render Gigli into a watchable film would be a real workout for the HDD?
