Im running win2k and i simply cant use my task manager.. i hit controal alt delete.. click on task manager as always and then it loads.. but after a couple of seconds it just disappears and it goes back to the desktop. So I cant check anything like Ram, or force close programs.. very annoying. Any one have any idea?

this being a Windows problem, a trawl through the Microsoft knowledge base might bare fruit

I seem to remember this being symptomatic of the W32.Klez worm. Check Symantecs site for info and do an online scan.

EDIT, by bad, i was multi-tasking with my bird. hehe

try this

1. start->run
2. cmd
3. sfc /scannow - here windows will ask for windows cd
now windows replaces any damaged system files

and if u are able to imagine it, then try below
have u tried this?

btw, i have another possible fix if the above doesn't work.

At a command prompt, on my computer running Windows XP, I executed the tasklist command to see what processes were running. One in particular caught my attention: wuagrmr (or something along those lines). I then executed the command taskkill /PID #### (where #### is the process id). This had killed the process; I then went into RegEdit safely and task manager safely.

Within RegEdit, go to your Run and RunOnce registry keys, and remove the "Winsock2 driver" entries. That entry points to said process. The process itself, FYI, is NOT part of the initial XP install, although named appropriately.
