In my recent experience Youtube is still doing that with regards to the contentID system, the "takedown" method depends on whoever has registered the particular content. The problem is that the contentID systems seems to grab anything that isn't a short sound byte of someone talking, thus lots of videos are getting contentID matches and having audio disabled or some advertisement put on. The first person to jump through hoops is the video uploader, then the baton is passed on to the copyright claimant so that they can jump through some counter hoops. It's a highly abused and mindfucked system.

I assume that when Giganews and Highwinds take down content, they do it for ALL of their servers? I've yet to use a server outside of AW so I'm not really on the up and up about their incompletes.

Now I understand a little bit more about how the 'usenet' service works. Thanks again.
yar it rarely happens(take downs) but your best option is to get a fill server but like i mentioned in previous post make sure its a diff server (find out who your usenet provider is reselling for) but yea astraweb is the best personally, never had a single problem with them

That seems to be the case. When the NY AG pressured them a few years ago to ban a long list of groups that frequently contained child porn (or with titles even remotely suggestive of child porn) the axe fell on their Amsterdam servers as well -- even though there were no problems with laws or government authorities there. It's been the same situation on content with differing copyright terms (like the classic Elvis songs being public domain in Europe for years, but will still be copyrighted in the USA for many decades to come) but I think these companies just remove everything on demand, valid or not, because don't want any possible trouble with the law.

I've very rarely come across an old file on Highwinds that did not need to be fixed with pars. That's in addition to the obvious takedowns like H.BO shows, so Highwinds suffers greatly compared to other providers regarding both types of incompletes.

    Sorry, but that's the facts.
Wrong, anyone who actually uses a Highwinds providers knows that is not true - I could produce tons of threads about the problems of many other providers but can't count on one hand the number of outages and or speed drops or retention black holes that any of the main Highwinds providers have had in the last year - no one needs to buy into this dinosaur's attitude about Highwinds. The Highwinds that Beck talks about has not been around for a long long time. Newshosting and Usenetserver are awesome, sure they have DMCA takedows because it is the law and they still, might I add, have less of a problem than giganews. I do myself support Newhosting and Usenetserver as they rock solid and reliable, they are just about the only providers around who can actually give you a full 100Mb(12+MB/sec) connection without throwing up all over itself or requiring you to use a ridiculous number of connections. The answer to the DMCA gaps simple, get an Astraweb block account and call it a day. Astraweb either does not abide by law or has fewer DMCA requests, either way they can usually in any gaps - speed often sucks but you do get some of the missing pieces.

Everybody knows no matter who your provider is you got to have a backup block account

    simply not true

    Astraweb - 56Mbyte. Bite me =))

Speed is slow only on weekends due to maintenance( refilling missing articles) + during their bad range which gets shorter and shorter

get an Astraweb block account and call it a day.
not an option if you are a fan of console games(100% take down), hbo to a certain extent and popular pc games. . block account will be wasted very fast
