    I've got a friend who swears by a straight shot of vinegar. He's had some serious problems with it for a long time. Might be worth looking for some online info about it.

    Hope it helps. My friend is usually pretty good at avoiding BS health remedies, and I will give it a shot the next time I have heartburn- which, luckily, isn't very often.

    Heartburn is usually acid reflux, i.e. burping up stomach acid. Vinegar is acetic acid diluted in water (still acidic). With those two pieces of info, vinegar is the last thing I'd want to put down my esophagus. Stick with antacids.

    The idea (as explained by my friend) is that your body is producing acids. Antacids neutralize what is there, but that doesn't stop your body from producing more, which requires more antacids.

    I might not have it right, but it was something on those lines.
