Ok, so I ordered all these new parts for my computer... motherboard, processor, video card, blah blah blah.

I get everything all hooked up, and then computer wont start... i mean, the bios will come up, the but OS wont start at all.

What I did was put my original hd into the new motherboard... but now it wont work...

I have a bootable copy of WinXP SP 1, but the darn thing wont boot for the first time ever. I think the PC refuses to read it or something.

There are settings in the BIOS as to the bootup sequence. Change it so that the CDrom drive is set to boot before the hard drive.

    What motherboard is it?
Is your CDrom drive connected by itself on an IDE channel? Are the jumpers set as Master?

turn off all the advanced options in the bios, it may have failsafe settings select those. if it wont let you boot from cdrom download the xp bootdiscs from MICROSOFT and boot from them. i would also take out anything non essential ie modem, sound card, network card etc as these can cause trouble with setup in xp. once you do get it to boot use the repair option(not using recovery console) it will rewrite the windows installation but you will have to download the updates again. after it boots you can put all the other stuff back in and enable the advanced features.

    boot from CD:
    boot from CD:
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

mind you... this cd used to boot!

hmm so it is trying to read from the cd .. does the bios list your hard drive and cdrom drives ok? have you got the drives plugged into the right sockets? hard drive in ide0 and cdroms in ide1? also try unplugging the slave cdrom. have just the bare essentials connected, it could also be a memory issue, have you got two sticks installed? try booting with just one of them in there, may sound odd but ive had it in the past and it took me hours to find it!
