Thread: Good Horror/Thriller Suggestions?

  1. #1
I am looking for a few good, truly scary movies, that are well filmed (no shaking cam type genre stuff ) with good acting and original story lines. ( or at least as much as is possible for a hollywood or indie release ) 2013 was a bad year for a good creepy show and what I have read and watched so far has left me wanting. IMDB is not to be trusted. I have no place to turn but here; for this can be, at times, one frightening forum. What better place then to get a few gems of possibilities. Obscure is most welcome... bear in mind I have seen most of the classics...

    Cheers!

I am not a strong fan of the genre (mainly due to a high disappointment ratio*), but I do give it an occasional stab...

I'd suggest these for various reasons, mostly their attempts to be somewhat original.

No One Lives (2012), The Conjuring (2013), and Warm Bodies (2013)

Are we talking The Shining scary,Marathon Man scary or Haute Tension scary?

Anyway you've probably seen them but two from Guillermo del Toro ,The Devil's Backbone and Chronos.

I'd also give a nod to The Human Race (2013).

    Thanks...

Saw Warm Bodies a few months ago... liked the love story zombie twist. The Conjuring didn't do it for me (or my companion rather) and I never saw it through to the end... might not have given it a real chance. I will try No One Lives. Read some of the reviews... looks like it could be worthy.

    @ Idol
Yes I would say "a la, The Shining...
Your suggestions read well... no I have not seen them... for unfortunately, the company I am keeping does not care for subtitles (God Damn...The truth is... she's a red neck... what can I say...I am trying to up her game somewhat.... somehow she has a hold on me...)

    The Exorcist

(...only if you've never seen it or read the book and have 5.1 audio copy, a decent system you can crank up the volume on it.)

(Scariest shit I have ever seen from back in the early '70's.)

Edit: (Sorry, I missed the classic bit in the op. Never mind.)

Not surprising Idol finds Spanish men in prison to be thrilling.

Most horror movies starting to get old and predictable. Horror games however much more thrilling being that you control the outcome of the situation.
