the 5.1 is good enough for what you are loking for... i have it and it works great with and without an actual 5.1 speaker set up...

Once you get used to nice sound from your PC though, it's hard to go back.
I started just using my PC to play all my music, Of course I don't use the computer speakers, I've got the sound card connected to my Home Entertainment system, so the music plays through it. Sounds really good.

I would say that sound blaster is a good buy. I use it. It is not the best, but definatly up there with the tops.

I have an external SoundBlaster Extigy and the sound is great.

My new board is supposed to have very good onboard sound, but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.
