Thread: Port Forwarding Question

  1. #1
Hi! Just joined the forum, and I hope I'm posting this in the correct place...

I'm new to the practice of torrent downloading - I learned that I can drastically increase my download speeds by Port Forwarding. As I understand it, it involves assigning a specific port for use by my torrent client, thereby streamlining the movements of packets being downloaded. However, the only information I can find on the subject shows how to open a range of ports for TCP and UDP access, and doesn't mention specifying the software client or where to enter the specific port to be used by the client. Am I missing something?

I am using a Clear Hub Express. Clear.com's instructions for port forwarding can be found here:

    http://www.clear.com/cms/download_file/view/1129/81/

but as I said before, it does not describe opening a port for a specific client. I have gone through some instructions online written specifically for torrent users, but they are just as generic as clear.com's instructions.

Has anyone had experience with this?

    Thanks,

    joe

    Hope this helps.

Just a tip, pick an unassuming username or usernames...Never use the real thing.

Yes, this is one of the online resources I tried - They didn't have a section for my particular hub, but I looked at a couple of other brands/models and it was still the same info - They had me look up the port being used by my software (Tixati), but didn't show where I would enter that info in the modem settings...
