I'm glad you asked that question as my dissertation for a Political Science doctorate at Mississippi State was actually entitled "The Irish:Bog Niggers?".Anyway my research found them actually to be more pinkish in hue and not, here's where it gets really tricky, black or even green although some are admittedly discoloured by coal soot or the salt of bitter tears.
