I don't know if it's of any help, but here are two websites:

    Everything about tweaking/tuning computers:
    http://www.speedguide.net/

Free advise on tuning/upgrading your PC:
    http://www.pcpitstop.com/
Use the free tune-up, it'll advise you what to upgrade/change.

Can't help you further, I'm too much of a newbie myself.

I find Tom's Hardware to be useful if a little overbearing.

    I think it is tomsharware.com

I think you could get a serious boost just by getting your current pc 512 mb of ram and a better videocard.
    I doubt you really need a faster processor unless you are a serious gamer{wich judging by your current pc you are not-no offense- my sucks worse }

ok then I would say leave the current processor.
    get 512 mb of ram
and a g force 4 ti4600 or radeon 9700 pro if you got the cash
if not a g force 4 ti 4200 would work just fine
and upgrade the processor in a few months when all the prices drop again
    to maybe 2.6-2.8 ghz range

i am a gamer also, and would suggest a better video card as well as at least 512mb of ram. the cards suggested above would be fine. as far as your processor, it would work fine for gaming. the ram will improve performance for games alot, along with a new vid card.

i am running an amd athlonxp 1800
    with 512mb of ram
    nvidia geforce2mx400 vid

vid card is older but runs well, the ones the other guy suggested would run even smoother

Yeah, I was thinking you should upgrade your ram too.
