Same as they always did; they give a rough estimate of how many posts someone's made.
Hopefully with the removal of the numbers there will be less post-mania.

Sounds like "star wars" will ensue. We have really upped the ante now.
So posts will continue to count in a hidden fashion and stars will be added appropriately. Doesn't take an idiot long to figure that out and spam for stars and not post count.
Why not just give all spammers 5 stars so they can stop messing up the board.
