make sure that the surface it's on is not reflective (glass, mirrors, or even some finished wood doesn't work well)

try it with a mouse pad. they have a use other than keeping shit of the ball

It could be that its wireless...I heard that they are not as responsive...so maybe if you like throw the mouse at 90MPH across your mouse pad it might not pick up or something..

Yup. I got rid of my wireless optical because of the slight delay.

hmmm...thanks VB I didnt really think it would make that big of a diff if I spent $70 bucks on a combo mouse and keyboard. But I guess I will just get a normal optical mouse and not a wireless.

I wasn't sure if it was caused by the wireless part or the optical part so I went back to a wired mouse with a ball (Logitech).

I have a MS optical wireless and it works fine.
I assume you have been to Control Panel>Mouse>Pointer Options>adjust speed?
Laggy response is also a symptom of failing batteries, maybe a fresh set would help....
