It all happened when I started downloading Adobe Acrobat Professional 6. I left Kazaa running overnight (freezing and slowness wasn't goona bother me while I was in bed) and when I woke up the file had finished downloading. Now everything is fine and back to normal.
That may be a trojan/virus newer than your AV protects against.

Check for strange processes running in the background.

Also, run MSCONFIG and check the startup tab. [/b][/quote]
What am I looking for in the start up tab?

I say when kazaa lite is running keep track of the processor useage kernel useageand ram hit control alt delete. To bring up the task manger. When kazaa lite aint running keep track as well. I bet ya you will see a difference, if anyone can put what i said into better english. I know im speaking technical terms.

I understood all your msg up until this............
How do I keep track of the processor usage kernal and the task manager?
FOUND THE TASK MANAGER
WHAT SHOULD I BE LOOKING FOR??

Thanks,

ok hit control alt delete hold all 3 for a few seconds. task manger will come up. when it opens, there will be 5 tabs the one you are on will be applications. Applications shows whats below in your desktop bar. the other 4 tabs you will see are processes, performance, networking and users. click the performance tab. above these 5 tabs you will also see file, options, view, shut down, and help. Click view and go to update speed the default i believe is low or normal, put it to high, reason i say so is because it gives an accurate way to see every second how the processor is handling data. You should also see show kernel times in the view part it is the last one. Click on view kernel times. You should see in the cpu useage box the top one a green bar and red. Red is your kernel which shows how stable xp is. green is the used processor keep track of the percent's that the numbers fluxciate between. In PF useage (ram useage) the number of xxxmb is what is being used. If its over your actual real ram, like your computer can with 256MB ram or 512MB ram this means, that xp is using virtual memory, (hard drive space to make up for ram thats being used) The cpu useage history shows a graph of how active your processor has been. it jumping up and down means your using lots of processor power. Page file useage history is the graph for virtual memory. There will be 4 boxes physical memory is the most important because it gives you raw data of how much ram you are using. etc. Total ram means the ram that you have installed mine is 523760 in short 512MB ram. Avaliable is how much that isnt being used. System cache means that whatever you run it gets put in cache so next time it runs faster. In the performance tab it will list every process that is running, I advise before tampering with it know which are safe to turn off. For future reference kazaa lite is this process kazaalite.kpp if kazaa lite ever freezes and u cannot kill the program processes is the way it will get shut off. Networking tab shows how much data is coming into your computer. If you have any questions i will reply to the post in here. or if you wanna contact me i will give you my email and we can start from there. If you need to contact me for anything just ask.

I myself have witnessed the cpu been bogged down after using KazaaLite for extended hours of time, but doesn anyone have any idea what about Kazaa is causing the problem and how to alleviate those who are suffering from it?

Ricky-
Thanks. I undrstood all in your msg....................
my ram is 512
PF usage is 198 to 202MB
CPU usage seems to flucauate from 2% to 100% while I'm watching it
Mostly staying around 10%
When I try to change folders from audio to now playing, the CPU usauge peaks around 100%.
The same happens when I Forward to the next song within a folder

PM total is 520 approx.
Available is 259 approx.
Proccesses:37

These numbers don't seem out of line, do they?

No other programs on my computer are having this problem, only k-l?

It's more than likely a corrupt file. Sounds too simple, but I've had the exact same problem in the past, and that was what it was. Go to My Computer/Program Files/KLIte folder/My Shared Folder and right click on the headings, put a check mark next to Date Created to make it visible. Sort the list by Date Created (recent to last) and just delete anything that's remotely suspicious, or just delete everything you've downloaded since before the problem occured. That should do it. You can always re-download the songs later on.

Thanks..................
What does remotely suspsicous look like?
What should I be on the looking out for?
Certain file names? extentions, etc?

If I reload the songs a few at a time will the corrupt or files always be obvious?

Any way to spot or avoid these files in the future?

The mp3/corrupt thing is possible but to me it seems like if it was the matter of a corrupt file it would error like cannot find program to open with etc.

Well everything seems pretty good sometimes, when you start a program the cpu useage will jump 100% which if you think about it. The processor is trying to make it start up as fast as possible. The amount of processes is kinda big to me since i normally run about 18-25 processes at most.

Course i keep task manager open to kill any processes that dont die on thier own. So it always stays low. I keep thinking of how to get those processes down, i am sure most of them are evil windows services. Which in XP it comes pre installed with 50 services the number you only need to run with XP is 7. I run about 12 of the services.

If you wanna contact me just messege the post back and I will PM (messege you my email) to try helping out if you need it. I bet you anything you have all the xp services running. If you have msn, yahoo or aol messengers i could help ya out there makes it better. Since i use those 3 messengers, And you probably wonder how a 18 year old guy knows all this. Tons of trail and error and tinkering with XP. If you want me to give you my email/messenger. Just messegge me back.

if you have more than 256MB of ram and not too many programs runing, check for a corrupt file in your shared folder or a bad db folder, it could also be the amount of files you are sharing
