well, this solution has worked for many people that i kno

sandwiched between the vga blower/fan/heatsink/whatever and the gpu is thermal goop (u kno, the stuff used on CPUs) only issue: its the generic Bird Shit kind (its white). if u got ur card from a hiQ company such as SapphireTech, this may not be an issue. but if ur card came from powercolor or evga or asus or bfgtech or some other lowQ place then listen up! u mite be able to help ur gpu out by using different thermal paste!

suggestions:

-Arctic Silver 5
-Arctic Silver III
-Shin Etsu
-Antec Reference Silver Thermal Compound

want to buy any of these? then google it.

depending on the strength of the card, it can lower temps by up to 15°C

avg temp reduction:
-9800xt -12°C
-5950u -15°C
-5700u -09°C
-9600xt -03°C

look at the 9600xt. if the diff with a 9600xt is only 3°C...

common sense plays very well here

who ever sed i read it?

i did it! well, i did it with my matrox parhelia

my friends did it with the other cards (except GCN. he already mounted a peltier system onto his card)

I got the idea after reading a review on the new shin etsu grease.

arctic III, 5, and shin etsu all tied, while bird $hit lost horribly by 15°c

there ya go

Thanks for the heads-up on that.

I just got my new graphics card and had a look.
Not only had they used "bird-shit" type compound, but it only covered about half the chip - the other half had nothing at all.

Easily rectified, now to see what it performs like.

if it works for you, tell me by how much it lowers the temps, and on what card (manufacturer, chip brand, and chipset [i.e. 9800 xt or 5700 ultra, no precise names such as NV36])

Sorry, new card.

I hadn't even installed it so I've got nothing to compare against.
