.par File Extensions

Ok, what is a .par file?
I have files like rar's but they are par's.
xxx.PAR; xxx.P01; xxx.P02 etc...
They came with a movie if that helps.

par files are used to repair any damaged rar files you have downloaded.
presumably you got these from newsgroups?
if so, you might have a missing or damaged .rar file. the .par files are used to repair or replace these .rar's
