Thread: Rams

  1. #1
hi, im planning on upgrading my comp by adding another stick of 512. so i was wondering does the name of the ram really matter? on pricewatch there is some generic 512meg for $50....on newegg, $62 (KRETON) was the lowest price. so does the name brand actually matter? would i see/notice the difference between the two?

Yeah it matters! Well if your other stick is a peice of shit then no it doesnt really mater. I would get at least some PNY or Kbyte or Ultra ram...there desent but not GREAT.

Yea, there can be a speed differnce. In all reality though, we would be talking about milli-seconds. There is really no such thing as slow RAM. I'd go with what's on sale.

so if i went w/ some big name brand....uhhhhh kingston, would i actually NOTICE the increase in speed? oh, and i dont plan on doing any overclocking.

Not really. Maybe if you got some Corsair or Mushkin and had timings SO TIGHT, and also had dual channel, then u might notice that in gaming a little bit and benchmarks but thats IT!

I spent $140 on 512MB of Mushkin 2X256MB. It was alot but im sure well worth it...your paying alot for the supreme quality of these sticks.

Generic rams has no quality. If you've a spare money why don't you get a branded chip.
