The only thing about European movies they have an accent like the Britons.

I know a good german film called "Das Experiment" about a group of scientists who get a load of volunteers to participate in a mock prison set up with half as guards and half as prisoners to see how their behaviour is affected. As they fall into their roles bad things start to happen. Top Film.

If you're looking for top British films then I reccomend Trainspotting, Human Traffic, two films that are not afraid to deal with the real going ons within the British youth / drugs / parties / jobs etc.
