I have a Samsung 48X writing speed CD-RW drive. In Nero, the fastest writing speeds I can get are 4X (because the CD's say it has a writing speed of 4X). But I just went to the properties of my disk drive, and on the dropdown menu, it says only 4X, 2X, and 1X. What happend? What can I do that doesnt require a reformat?

EDIT: Or could it just say that because the last CD I used say they write at 4X?

Yeah, but when I go to My Computer, right click on my CD-RW drive, and go to properties, then go to the recorder tab, all it says is 4x, 2x, and 1x, shouldnt it be 48x?

EDIT: Weird, I just went into Nero, and I didnt instert a disk, and it said I could write at 48x, so I guess it is the disk.

So are you saying in the Device manager, it only says it's a 4x burner???

Or is it just the disk, cuz it sounds like just the disks burn at 4x speed, and when they do this, they usually won't burn any higher speed than that.

So if you want to use them, you will have to deal with 4x as the max speed. If the driver is just being reconized wrong, reinstall the drivers.

Also RW's never burn at the max speed of the burner, usually around 20x is top speed on a 48x burner, for Rewritables.
However, I'd say your problem is these disks are only 4x burnable.

when there isnt a disk in the drive, nero display your max write speed

CD-RW's are only 4x are they not??? If they are only 4X than you are only gonna be able to record at 4x and when you go to the properties of your CD writer while you have a 4X disk in it is gonna say it is 4X.Take that disk out and put a normal CD-r in.See what happens.
