not much, elmo. But its still nice to look at, and this face it, we'll be buying D3 for the graphics alone.

true true, it's not doom3 that's not gonna make it big (maybe it will, im half drunk right now), but the games that will use the engine and have a better story and gameplay. just like how half life used the quake engine and became big, some other game is gonna use the doom 3 engine and make it big, mohaa is a perfect example of the quake3 engine success. i'm buying the game for it's brute power/graphics/and terror (terror as in story and setting/mood).

EDIT: don't forget jedi knight 2: jedi outcast and jedi academy, both use quake technology

Jeff Loomis: He's so good, he doesn't need to be dead to have a tribute.

i have to disagree....sure the graphics in d3 will be a big part in why we buy/download (your choice) the game....but its not just cuz of the graphic....no body is gonna buy a game just to stare at it. we buy game to play not to look at the monitor....a game need to have good controls and a story to back up the graphic in order to be successful.

    *Shrug*

The way i see it is that ID, although an extremely talented group of individuals, doesnt really excel at making great single player games. What they make are outstanding engines backed up by (dons fireproof suit) average games. It's not so much the base game that impresses - its the engine and the eyecandy. And then, a few weeks down the line, its the Mod's that make the game a real winner. If you go back and look at every ID game since Doom, you'll probably find that you spent as much (if not more) time playing the mods than you did the original game. For me, and i believe for a lot of people this may be true, It's the engine im buying - and the ability to play dozens (if not hundreds) of free games made for that engine.

Anyway, thats the way i consider ID games. IMO, the best "Id" game since the original Doom was RTCW - and that wasn't actually developed by ID, but by grey matter.

    *rubs feeling back into hands*

What does interest me is that ID are apparently trying to break away from doom and quake in the near future. I've heard through a normally reliable source that the crew wants to start work on a new series... wether this means that ID is planning to break away from the traditional fps mould that they themselves created has yet to be seen, but it's interesting news nonetheless.

    UT2004

An improved Unreal Warfare engine, with all the maps from UT2003 and extra maps on top of that as well as bringing back assault (that they took out of UT2003) plus a new game mode.

I think UT2004 is going to be what UT2003 should have been. Only because it includes assault, vehicles and some type of akimbo weapons
(I'm not knocking UT2003 here, but it really should have included assault, vehicles and some sort of akimbo weapons)

whoa... if you were getting 1 fps with a gf3 500, then theres something else wrong mate. I was getting 24 on my gf3 200.

Anyway, if you run the alpha, try setting com_fixedtic 1 in the console. Game runs in slow-motion, but it runs really smooth (i was getting 50+ on my rig, which looked sweeeeeeet). I don't know what the correct conclusion to draw from that is, but my personal guess is that it was running slowly more due to slow code in the physics routines than in the engine itself. Which would make sense... at a slower speed, the physics routes should get called less frequently, freeing up more time for the gfx engine to do its thing...
Or am i getting completely the wrong end onf the stick here? X.x

Anyway, the file name should be doom_iii.rar (thats three i's, not three 1's. but you knew that already. ) with a size of 372,833kb. I've tried getting a hash for it, but K seems to be really slow at the moment... could just be that there aren't many sources at the moment.
yeah, i mostly got around 20-25 fps also. but when i had 3-4 monsters attacking me...yes, down to 1 fps! i was running an old (not sure model) asus mb with amd 2100+, 1gb of ddr 266 pc 2100, and the gforce3 ti-500 64mb.
