It looks to me like you've had a prog that has fucked with your graphics .... a game maybe? It happens now and then. Have you rebooted?
its not a graphics porblem becuase in the start menu things are highlighted (like when you install new stuff) you should scan for virus spyware trogans etc. I think you might have one
