Thread: Some Suggestion Needed

1. #1
maybe a few of you remember me saying i was gonna build a pc for my friend....i order a amd 1900 for him...comparing to his 1.8ghz celeron....that should be a bit better....

now to gfx card...he has a mx440se 64mb ddr pci version....so i've decided to get him a fx5200 128mb 8x (but the mobo i bought for him can only support 4x) . that should be a big jump right? not only is the memory double, this is a better chipset and its a agp over his pci.

any thoughts?

It might be able to run 4x AGP too, so you can shove it in the mobo you bought. I think. I don't think you'll really notice much difference between 4x and 8x.

huh? if you're refering to the fx5200, i know it can run at 4x...almost every card is backward compatible....if you're refering to his mx440...its a pci interface

i know theres not really a diff. in 4x and 8x....but is there a dif. between the 4x agp fx5200 128mb and his pci mx440 64mb

Generally speaking you wont see much of a difference between ANY 5200, and a MX 440.

Let me let you in on alittle secret, 5200 = MX 440, with added dx 9 compabatility.

Sorry about that. I'm tired and I can't read things properly.

I think he will see a performance increase, since PCI cards are generally crap. I think if you look around and maybe get lucky, you might be able to find an Ati Radeon 9500 for about $30-40 more. Look at some sites and try froogle.google.com
