How do you get a custom "error page"

Like when you go to a directory that doesn't exist?

ie: http://www.walmart.com/asdf


(don't ask why i chose walmart??? first big company i could think of....sad.)

it depends where you are hosting your web site and what software you are using. You can redirect the default error page to another one to show.

i'm using mediatemple, i can't find any option for it.

i dont know of any web hosting services that allow you to change your default error page. it would be too much trouble setting it up for every account.

you can only do it really if you setup your own server.

Let us know if it worked. Mainly depends if you have a unix server and you have telnet, ftp or ssh access. The domain should be urs ofcourse

Not true.

My webhost for my website allows me to change the .htaccess file. I can create custom 404 pages like described above along with many different ones.

Not true. Many hosts allow it. It all depends on your host and most of them allow. Host should be unix based. I have several websites running and i have custom 404 on each of them. .htaccess is not to play around, many things can be done through that.
