Access Windows Partition

[vivitron 15]

I have 2 installed windows partitions, which i am currently dual booting:

c:\windows
d:\windows

now, something has gone wrong with the d: installation, and for some reason this is no longer bootable. now this isnt a problem, cos i was getting rid of this anyway (i will format this partition once ive solved my problem, so im not interested in recovering it)

i have some files in d:\documents and settings which i would like to get to

now, my prolem is that i keep getting a message

"d:\documents and settings\viv\ is not accessible.  Access is denied"

Does anyone know how i can get rid of this, and get to my docs?

the thing is its the permissions to access that folder on d drive.
try rebooting in safe mode and logging in as an admin then see if you access it.

you have most likely encrypted/ protected your data from other users, i dont think there is a easy way round this!

i cant boot into the old partition:

i used norton ghost to backup then restore, and i lost a windows file, and its a bit screwed...so i cant really do that; or can i boot into safe mode on the new one?

i know...this is the bastard of the problem, i think its cos it thinks im not admin, and so wont let me get to "other peoples files"

go to the one which boot ups.

you must have admin priveledges.

right click My Computer

click the advanced tab

go to the settings of the startup and recovery (its the third box)

then click edit for system startup options.


you do something in their but i have never edited that.

thats the most i can help man.

i dont think it matters if your a admin or not... and hacking discussions are not allowed here

he&#39;s not hacking he is tying to recover some files from a f@%&£d up partition
