i have an ethernet router that i wanna connect up to my pc, laptop and adsl modem, the problem is that my adsl modem does not have a cat5 ethernet slot, it only has a phoneline slot [the 1 tht goes 2 the microfilter], is there neway i could get around it?

do i need to connect the router to the modem or is it ok if i connect the modem to the host pc via usb and the router via ethernet?

    any help appreciated

    Sorry, no, that won't work.

I don't know if this has happened to you, but it seems a lot of people have been misinformed that all they need to connect multiple pc's to the internet is to get a router. No-one has informed them that the router has to be able to connect directly to the internet.

If you've only just got this router, send it back, it isn't what you want.

Try this instead, it works fine, and replaces your modem.

This is a little cheaper. You can connect two pc's with it, one via USB, the other via ethernet, but you have no expansion to connect a third pc.
