ok i know that the higher the better, and i go for the highest if im gonna burn to audio cd and rip files at LAME r3mix settings (good enough for me)

i mostly prefer 24kbs mono it sounds as good as a FM car radio i think, and you can fit 70 hours (almost 3 days worth) on a CDR
plus since i'm on dialup i can listen to songs the same time i download them.
check out this mp3 and tell me 24kbs sounds BAD or UNlistenable. :music1:

    ack!

listen to that track ripped at 192k for a more enjoyable experience

i was listening to a 192 file then gave that one a listen and had to tweak winamp a bunch for it to even sound decent

    Eww!

For me, it is either LAME -aps (190-210K VBR) or APE.

I use Poikosoft Easy CD-DA Extractor to rip with and usually go with 320 highest qualityCBR. VBR is fine but even set to the highest bitrates it doesn't sound any better than 320 CBR, just makes the file size smaller. It has a setting for 48,000 sample rate on it but I haven't tried that yet. Think Im gonna go rip a cd at that and see how it sounds LOL. Now as far as my shared stuff 192 CBR all the way for bandwidth reasons.

no seriously, even for in the car, with a halfway normal (not even a particularly good one) stereo, the radio is nicer than that
