Thread: Wmv To Divx Or Xvid

    is there an app that will allow me to convert a .wmv file to .avi and compress it to divx or xvid? I'm sry if this should be in software world, i wasn't sure.

    sure about musicworld.. this either goes in softtware or movieworld. but sorry i cant help you.. wmv is shite quality so it wouldnt look good anyway if u converted it.

    for WMV to AVI, try VirtualDub version 1.3C (later versions had WMV support removed).

    if that doesn&#39;t work, TmpgEnc can convert WMV to Mpeg-1 or Mpeg-2.

    @mogadishu-- the quality of WMV admittedly is not spectacular, but most people have a bad opinion of it &#39;cos most WMV files are done with a very low bit rate. at higher rates, WMV approaches "decent" quality-- for example check out the WMV movies (download versions, not streaming) they have at BMWFilms.com... they don&#39;t look too poor at all.

    yea, i watched full moveis when earthstation 5 was streaming them in wmv.. for the file size they are great and since they allow streaming, its perfect for online.

    but if you were to compare a 500kbps divx avi file to a 500kbps wmv file, the difference is astronomical.
