People who are not UK citizens cannot be knighted, as I understand it.

I think there may be some sort of alternative or Honorary thing.

Bob Geldof got one for his whole Band Aid / Live Aid thing.

I wonder if the queen nighted those paparazzis that went on trial in France for contributing to Diana's death, it's night like they sat around snorted coke for 35 years like Mic & Elton.

Unlike Blair's Congressional Medal of Honor, Gates can't be properly knighted - That is reserved for those of British background (i.e. British natives).

But he can get an honorary knighthood. If I remember, someone else got one a few years back - It was on the news a lot that night. I think it might have been at the British Embassy in New York?

Nothing against Sirs Mick, Elton, Paul, et. al., but I think Keith Richard had a point about Mick.

If Mick is good for a Knighting, why not Keith?

Is it because of Mick's sterling character?

On the whole, if the Brits are going to go to the trouble of stipulating native-born status, I'd rather they just Knighted those genuinely deserving of it; Bill Gates be damned (nothing at all against Mr. Gates).

Again-the lads are tops, but Knighting?

    Puhleeeeeze.
