Here's the deal. I use Windows WMV format for my videos, but a few people I know, want me to send them QuickTime (QT) versions of some of the movies.

I can't find the best combinations of compression codecs for audio and video, for QuickTime. They always end up in huge files!

    For example:

I have a homemade DVD movie. Very high quality!

When I make a WMV movie from it, it is 30MB (348kbs) 30 frames/sec Not bad quality at all!!!

When I make a Quicktime movie of equal sound quality and video quality, it is 112MB. Anything less ends up as CRAP.

Does anyone know what the standard QT Audio compression codec is? Does anyone know what the standard QT Video codec is?

i honestly don't believe there is a standard video/audio codec combo for QT. just looking at a folder of QTs i've downloaded off websites, i'm seeing video codecs including Sorenson, Cinepak, and H.263. and just as wide a range of audio formats.

if you haven't tried Sorenson, you might wanna check that out, since i see it in a lot QTs from movie/band websites.

I have a TON of codecs that is recognized in QuickTime. The problem is, I don't want to use a codec that works perfect in Windows, but not on the MAC. I don't use MAC to know. QuickTime compiler also sees some Windows codecs, like DIVX, I am sure that QuickTime doesn't accept that.

I just found out that Design is a popular codec for Quicktime, but it crashes on my PC every time.

Most of all. All of the compression tweaking and ratios just look like (and sound) like crap compared to Windows WMV.
