here's a dilemma i'm having. i got as5 with this. from the artic silver site, they say to put a small amount on the cpu, and that's it. from ppl at extremeoverclocking.com, they say to cover they entire cpu core (square) with a thin layer. spread it out using a credit card. and they put a small bit on the hs.

y r they different? wat do i do? the comps i heard the sp-94 is a different from other hs's in terms of thermal grease. wat do i do?

just covering the core oughta be fine. you don't wanna be able to see the core through the paste, but make sure it's a very thin layer nonetheless. and try not to get any on the bridges.

i think that bit about rubbing it into the heatsink is an optional step which might improve your temperatures, or might not. if you put the heatsink on and you end up getting really high temps, clean the core with rubbing alcohol, let it dry, and try again. applying thermal paste isn't an exact science by any means.

You dont need to cover the entire chip, just the core.

I personally, take a small dab on my finger, and spread it out over the heatsink, starting at center, circular motions until its just a small glaze over it, then I do the same for the core itself of the CPU.
