    Hey,
I'm thinking I may have to RMA my Seagate HD after 1 day of use. I'm running Seatools on it right now to assess it's problems but I think it's the HD that's causing me Havok.
Anyways what I'd like to know is... Has anyone else here had a bad experinece with Seagate. and what other HD broand would you recommend? I'm thinkin Maxtor or Western Digital.

What is your Hard Drive doing exactly? Or what do you think it is messing up?

Well I wanted to format since my XP PRO was having constant error popups. so I went to Format and it wouldn't go past 3%. I let it sit for an hour and it didn't go any further. so then I tried another way and it wouldn't go past 1%. So basically I can't format.

My CET class at school ordered a bunch of stuff to build our semester PC's with, among them, 12 WD Hard Drives. 5 of them were faulty and had to be returned.

My point isnt that WD sux0rs or anything like that, we ordered a box of them, and we got part of a bad batch. All of the companies are similar really, you dont see them trying to compete in the least if you think about it, unlike all the other markets. Video cards, Processors, Cases, Memory, etc, because of the simple idea that Hard Drives are Hard drives. They know that if they have the lowest prive on a 120GB drive, with a 8MB cache, than you will buy it if its the better deal.

I have heard of little brand loyalty when it comes to Hard drives. My suggestion is RMA it and get a new one. Just buy whatever is the best buy for you in the future too.

Sounds more like software than hardware go get a bootdisc Win'98 would be ok for the job http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

Boot with this in your floppy then fdisk and format the drive after you can then reinstall Xp,at the moment you've something wrong when loading as its crashing out on you.

try fdisk /mbr after booting with a bootup floppy, it fixes the master boot record, then use fdisk to create new partitions and try formating them.
