British rock critics aghast at Rotten's reality turn

LONDON - British organizers of the reality TV show I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! announced Monday that former Sex Pistols singer and punk icon Johnny Rotten, whos real name is John Lydon, has agreed to appear on the hit reality show.

Many British rock critics and fans were aghast at the announcement. "If it has come to this for the prince of punk, then mediocrity really does get us all in the end," wrote Lee Randall in The Scotsman.

I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! strands moderately known celebs in a jungle, submits them to a series of trials, and allows the public to vote them off the show one by one. There is no prize money but previous winners have experienced big boosts to their previously struggling careers.

As lead singer of the Sex Pistols, Lydon helped revolutionize music with the group's anti-establishment songs.
