ok what you typed doesnt really make sense but i think i have an idea of whats going on.

ok so you have one desktop and a laptop correct? the dsl internet is connected to the desktop using usb and that is a working connection right?

then you have your laptop which has a wireless card in it and you have a wireless router. Is the router connected to the desktop in any way? if not then it has to be hooked up using an ethernet cable OR another wireless card which you install inside the dekstop. you can then run the network setup wizards on the desktop AND laptop and they will then be on a netowrk together and the internet will start to work. BTW, they both have to have the same workgroup name (you set it in the home networking wizard) and make sure that the desktop is always on when you want to use the laptop on the internet.

    good luck!

you should not need anything, all you need to do is hook up the new computer with a CAT 5 cable from the network card to the router, or if you want it to be wireless get a netgear USB wireless card to match your current netgear equipment

ok thats ok but when i spoke to cable comp they said that to have both working at same time i need to network them n although they said this is poss they dont supply support or software to do this can i jus do this through windows xp pro then?
also my desktop supplier said somet bout not having port for wireless card but to get a usb adapter is this same thing then.
soz if this is taking while to sink in i got very thick head!!
    cheers every1

ok then your modem is ethernet at the moment? that is better, just hook up the modem to the WAN(internet) port on the router and then you can configure the router to share the dsl connection for the computers. And get a netowrk card (wired) and hook it directly up to the router so that you dont need a usb or wireless card for it, unless you want a wireless netowrk on both in that case get the usb one.

read your manual to find out how to set up the router (you usually use a web browser and type in an ip number, i think its usually 192.168.0.1 and it asks for a username and password which will be found in your user manual and can be changed later) your connection type is probably dynamic ip.

The great thing is that you only have to configure once so when it starts to work just hookup your new dekstop when you get that and the internet will be already ready to go.

And if you want to share files run that network setup wizard and make the workgroup the same, then you can right click drives\folders and go to share then enable sharing for it and you can even share printers.

In your desktop computer you need to have a LAN card installed:

    LAN card:

Then you connect the LAN card to the router with

    CAT5 cable:
