Thread: Windows 98 Trouble

  1. #1
We have this emachine computer, it has 64mb memory and running on a Pentium II it has windows 98 and it use to have a 40 gig hard drive but I put a 120 gig hard drive in it and now when I go to restart or shutdown it gets hung every time. What I want to know is if any one can tell me how to fix this? I would also like to know your suggestions on what to buy for it to possible upgrade it? All help is appreciated

    Thanks a lot

    Win98 problem = softwareworld.

I think its because Win98 doesn't support that big a partition, although there are ways to get around it.

What do you mean by "it use to have a 40 gig hard drive but I put a 120 gig hard drive in it " ?
Is the 40 still in or not.

Did you format the WHOLE h/drive to 120 then ?
Sorry about all the questions but as people read they will get a picture of whats been done or not.

there was no need to format it i took it form the box and put it in the pc, when i installed windows i think it formatted it but it said it could only allow 137 gigs because of some limit barrier. that why i asked if i need to get a controller card and would that fix it

I swear by ME myself but I won't go into that,me personally wouldn't have formated the whole disc but broke it down to say 3 or 4 partistions and then loaded to the first one leaving the others for music etc.
Can you get into windows at all say with "safe mode" ?

    "controller card"
And yes your drive maybe a 133 but your old one was say 66 tops but that shouldn't stop you from booting to Windows.

installed windows i think it formatted it but it said it could only allow 137 gigs because of some limit barrier.
Don't know why it said that you only have a 120gig.
