Thread: Which Are Irc's Strong And Weak Points?

  1. #1
    Hello all,

I am currently using KLite, BT, and Shereaza for my P2P activities. Yet I have seen in several posts that IRC is one of the best P2P clients at the mom, and I want to explore it further. I read the pinned post in this forum which explains how to use it (congratulations to the post's author! ), and now I would like to understand the pros and cons of IRC. For example,

    - KLite offers fast d/ls, but has moderate availablity of files, and lots of fakes
    - BT offers superfast d/ls, has no fakes, but offers limited availability of files
    - Shereaza has shitty d/l speeds, but has great file availability and no fakes

How does IRC compare on the above grounds?

    Thx for the info, B)

irc is, by far, the best p2p there is

not many ppl use it because it's not exactly user-friendly but a lot of ppl use it now than before (before RIAA went on its ranpage)

    no fakes, fastest download

downside is the queue system, if a file a popular u have to wait a long queue, even days to get the file.

content-wise irc offers the most popular movies, games, appz, porn great all around but you might have difficult finding rare albums and older games.

that's where other p2ps come in useful (bt, klite, ss....etc)

    Thx for the help!

So, if I get it correctly IRC is a direct "competitor" to BT: The reason I say this is that bittorent also offers only newer files, but you get them fast and reliably. This is waht happens with IRC, right?

bt is way out of league when compared to irc

irc have always existed, even before the internet there is irc channels

the network is massive and spread all over the world.

but still i think there are unique dis/advantages to both networks. Irc always has the new releases on movies. In fact newsgroups and irc channels are the place to go if you want to get the new releases first, they always come out on irc first or newsgroups then they are propagated down to other p2p networks like fasttrack, gnutalla etc....

bt is fast IF there are many ppl on the tracker and there are enuff seeds but downside is its reliance to trackers (servers that keep track of users) and its notorious RIAA/MPAA catching users on bt

    just to get you started

    www.ircspy.com

an excellent search engine for goodies on irc channels

just click on the link and mirc will open automatically and just paste the xdcc command and look for response from the bots.....

    good luck B)

Depends on the connection the bot is on.
For newer releases they will usually have the bots on fast connections.
If the release is already what older the connection won't be that good. They will also assign smaller releases to slower bots.

edit: 'They' being the channel/bot operators.

    adding to their points...
    Fast download, no FAkes

But RIAA attention has turning towards IRC network as well...
Not very soon, but sooner or later, they will be upon the IRC network!!

They've tried that several times, but failed miserably because it couldn't be proven beyond reasonable doubt that you actually downloaded the files yourself or were sent them without your consent
