Thread: Computer Problem

Didn't know exactly where to put this but this is my problem:

I have this older computer running Windows ME (I know, crappy OS) and after you use it for a while, the hard-drive would constantly grind. It would not stop unless you force the computer to turn off (by truning off the power). So does any one know a solution to this problem? My parents use this computer and it has been driving them crazy (and me too).

I have a Windows 2000 Professional CD. Is it time for an OS change?

One more question. Would Windows 2K run on a computer with these specs:

    - AMD K6-2 @ 450MHZ
    - ~ 55MB RAM

    the hard-drive would constantly grind
That's hardware not software, I would be more bothered about getting any files off of there that anyone needs before the drive retires for good.

Its not a seagate by any chance ?

The constant grinding is because you don't have enough RAM.
Your computer is constantly using the swap file.

    Amazing.
It's not often that you hear of some upgrading to Windows98 these days...
