Cyprus Reuniting?

30 years after the declaration of succession and Turkeys subsequent invasion and finally the UN partition, does anyone think that there is really any reasonable hope that the 2 sides can be reunited before the May 1st entry into the EU? With the 2 sides so diametrically opposed, especially the north, what kind of international mediation could possibly bridge such a gap? So whats the consensus, will Cyprus be reunited? Yes or no?

Cant see it happening in the near future.


However we have to look on the bright side; they arent killing each other much or often. And the UN presence is not exactly huge to keep it that way. Wish we could say the same for other places.

Yes, is, I think, the short answer.

Both sides want into the EU. I think a form of Federalism will be found so that the North can piggy back into the EU by the 1st of May on the South's entry. The Turks really want into the EU so they will look on any honourable settlement favourably.

Just my view, I may be wrong and it won't take long to find out.

I saw a Marty Feldman movie (Beau Geste) where he played the identical twin of some famous leading actor. The voice over said "one twin was more identical than the other" I think this is what b4icu meant.
