Keep the PC off. Turn it off at the back, unplug it so nobody can turn it on etc.

How did you apply the thermal paste?

squezed the tube and coated it with a good layer on the
    little chip
    then aplied the heatsink

a side note the connector that i use for my cpu fan and
case fan one of will spin up and then stop when the comp
    is turned on
right now i have the cpu fan in the one that works

i went to start up my mobo "said" cpu test faild.
How do you know that did it speak to you, or was this like 8 or so bleeps for the memory test.
Only put in your memory, cpu (with fan), video card, keyboard and connect the power switch on to the board its enough to boot up ,if it doesn't then you have a problem.

a side note the connector that i use for my cpu fan and
case fan one of will spin up and then stop when the comp
    is turned on
How can it spin up without the power on ?
This to me is saying you have the h/drive or floppy cable the wrong way round.

They wouldnt have done the damage mate, theres not alot of juice running through them. The worst that would happen is if you put them the wrong way round is the curcuit would be permanently closed/on.The best way is what cwctv is saying just power on with the minimum, cpu, mem, display.Dont even bother putting it in the case, dont connect anything else like harddrives cdrom until you get it going.Stil no joy mate you're messed you're cpu.

That board has protection against the CPU overheating (powers down if it gets too high) so you should be OK.

Open your mobo manual (download it from the Asus website if you can't find it) and double-check your connections; although this'll put right anything you may have connected wrong, it won't fix the problem you have since messing up those connections won't cause that to happen.

As cwctv suggested, remove everything, then just install the basics first.
    Make sure...
    - you ground yourself before shoving your hands around in there. I leave the power cord plugged in but switched off at the wall socket (because in the UK we have a lovely earthing system) and grab the case frame.
    - there are no bent pins on the CPU, although I doubt that there would be.
    - the memory is seated properly and if you have more than one stick, just insert one and then the other if you still get the error with the first.
It may also be prudent to clear CMOS while you're in there.
if your font size is this small i'll add you to my ignore list because you're wasting my time, OK?
