i recently got a new HDD....... i wanted to put it in my comp, and make about 6-7 partitions on it (like my old HDD, only bigger).......... trouble is, for some reason windows wont let me make more than 4 primary partitions.

What the diference between the diffrent types of partitions??

oh yeah: its a 120GB Western Digital, OS: XP Home

Four primary partitions is the maximum allowed. I think what you want is one primary partition that is active which you boot from. The second partition could be an extended partition that is split into logical drives. You can have up to 24 logical drives in an extended partition.

I use partition magic for this. It has always worked well and no loss of data.

    thanx but uhhhmmmmmm:
Even if the entire disk is intended to be left in one piece, it must be partitioned so that the operating system knows that it is intended to be left in one piece
    that kinda sux..........
