I have taxi3 in .avi and a .idx, and a .sub.
what do I do with them to get subtitles?

play the movie with BSplayer or MPC then 'load subtitle' and select the .sub file.

Or you can install a free program called VobSub. Once installed, it will display the subtitles automatically in most players. Just make sure the filenames are the same except the file extension of course (example: Topgun.avi, Topgun.srt (and/or *.sub, *.smt, *.idx)).

    [EDIT]
BTW, it's included in quite a few codec packs so do the same name thing first.

With Zoom Player, you just put the .AVI file and the subtitle files into the same folder, with the same file names, and just open the .AVI. It shows the subtitles automatically.
